The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Chardalias conducted today, Sunday 3 July 2022, the unveiling of the bust of the Colonel (TECH) Grigorios Rachovitsas, along with the Hero’s two brothers Georgios and Dimitrios Rachovitsas, in a ceremony hosted by the Mouzaki Municipality, at the Local Community of Agios Akakios. The Government was represented in the event by the Minister of Justice Mr Konstantinos Tsiaras.
The Colonel Grigorios Rachovitsas, who was serving in a Unit of the Hellenic Force in Cyprus, has gone missing since 20 July 1974, while participating in war operations during the Turkish invasion, in the area of the “VAVYLA KYRINEIAS” village, in Cyprus, fighting with self-denial for the ideals and values of democracy, freedom and sovereignty.
The following individuals attended the honour and commemoration event: relatives of the Hero, the MPs of Karditsa Mr Georgios Kotsos and Ms Asimina Skondra, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Greece Mr Kyriakos Kenevezos, the Deputy Head of the Karditsa Region Mr Konstantinos Nousios, the Mayor of Mouzaki Mr Theofanis Stathis, the Chief of the Tactical Air Force Lieutenant General Georgios Fasoulas, the President of the Local Community of Saint Akakios Mr Lambros Athanasiou, the Commanders of the local Security Forces Services, as well as delegations of Armed and Security Forces members.
