December 9, 2022

The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Chardalias visited today, December 9th 2022, the Athens Navy Hospital, where he inaugurated the renovated premises of the Cardiology Clinic and 3B Ward of inpatient care.

The renovation of the premises and the modernization of medical infrastructure of the Athens Navy Hospital’s Cardiology Clinic and 3B Ward of inpatient care was carried out through an exclusive grant by the Chairman of “Aikaterini Laskaridi” Foundation, Rear Admiral (hon.) Panagiotis Laskaridis.

In his speech, the Deputy Minister of National Defence stated the following:

I am particularly pleased that I am here today at the inauguration ceremony for the renovated premises of Athens Navy Hospital.

The constant upgrading of healthcare for the Armed Forces’ personnel and their families is a top priority for the leadership of the Ministry of National Defence and for the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in particular. And that is because we believe that the existence of a very well organized health infrastructure is an absolutely necessary prerequisite for the Army’s battleworthiness, but also we are confident that our personnel, our Armed Forces’ force multiplier that is fighting on a daily basis the “good fight” of protecting the country’s territorial integrity and security, deserves only the best!

And of course, we should always have in mind the members of our Medical Corps that effort night and day for saving lives and improving their patients’ quality of life. Especially in this difficult pandemic period where the limits of the Country’s healthcare structures have been tested, private initiatives and offers to the community supplement the State, providing solutions to address the most urgent problems.

At this point, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to “Aikaterini Laskaridi” Foundation and to the honorary Rear Admiral Mr. Panagiotis Laskaridis in particular, for the grant for the renovation of the Athens Navy Hospital’s Cardiology Clinic and 3B Ward. Mister Laskaridis, through his strong, consistent and unconditional support to the Hellenic Navy’s mission, confirms that he belongs to that class of patriot shipowners that has always been at the forefront of the Nation’s struggles over maintaining the Armed Forces’ battleworthiness. On behalf of the Country, I would like to extend my since thanks to you.

Concluding, I would like to congratulate the Hellenic Navy General Staff, the personnel of the Athens Navy Hospital, as well as any others who contributed to the implementation of this project for the Members of the Hellenic Navy”.

Addresses were also given by the Chief HNGS Vice Admiral Stylianos Petrakis, who also represented the Chief HNDGS General Konstantinos Floros at the ceremony, the Director of Athens Hellenic Navy Hospital Commodore Lampros Bilalis and the grantor honorary Rear Admiral Panagiotis Laskaridis.

The ceremony has also been attended by the former President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Prokopios Pavlopoulos, the Ambassador and General Consul of Panama in Greece Ms. Julie Lymberopulos, the former Minister of National Defence and Honorary Chief HNDGS Admiral (ret.) Evangelos Apostolakis, the former Deputy Minister of Interior and Honorary Chief HNDGS Admiral (ret.) Panagiotis Chinofotis, the Honorary Chiefs HNGS Admirals (ret.) Nikolaos Tsounis and Kosmas Christidis, the Chief of the Hellenic Cost Guard Vice Admiral Georgios Alexandrakis, as well as by Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and Civilians of the Athens Hellenic Navy Hospital.e
