The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Hardalias, yesterday, Friday 10 February 2023, continuing his visits to Formations and Units of the Armed Forces in Northern Greece for the second day, accompanied by the Commanders of the 1st Army/EU–OHQ Lieutenant General Ioannis Tsioplios and the C’ Army Corps/NRDC-GR Lieutenant General Paris Kapravelos, visited the premises of:
– The HQ of the 34 Mechanised Brigade in Assiros.
– The 10 Infantry Regiment in Serres.
– The 567 Motorised Infantry Battalion in Sidirokastro – Serres.
– The Border Outposts of “ROUPEL” and “PROMAHONAS”.
The Deputy Minister of National Defence, in the context of the visits, was briefed by the Commanders of the 34 Mechanised Brigade Brigadier General Christos Michalopoulos, the 10 Infantry Regiment Colonel Adam Sarris and the 567 Motorised Infantry Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Petros Tsakalos, as well as by the Heads of Detachments on the organisation, the mission and the current activities of the Formation, the Regiment, the Battalion and the Outposts correspondingly, while he had the opportunity to converse with the members of the units and the enlisted soldiers.
Additionally, during his visit to the premises of the 567 Motorised Infantry Battalion, Mr Hardalias was also briefed by the Commander of the Sidirokastro National Guard Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Symeon Lalagos, on the Unit’s current activities and conversed with the members of its force.
Furthermore, Mr Hardalias visited the Roupel Monument, where, after a memorial service, he laid a wreath in honour of the fallen in the battle of the same name.
Finally, the Deputy Minister of National Defence, in the presence of the Serres MPs Mr Anastasios Hatzivasiliou, Mr Theofilos Leontaridis and Ms Fotini Arabatzi, conducted meetings with His Eminence the Metropolitan of Sidirokastro Mr Makarios and His Eminence the Metropolitan of Serres and Nigrita Mr Theologos, as well as the Mayor of Sintiki Mr Fotios Domouhtsidis.
The Deputy Minister of National Defence, regarding yesterday’s visits to Armed Forces Units in the Serres Prefecture, stated the following:
“For us, the Political Leadership of the Ministry of National Defence, it constitutes a priority to be near the members of our Armed Forces. This is unnegotiable. From Othoni to Gavdos, from Kastellorizo to Strogyli, up to Kastanies and Kavisos, we strive to be close to our Armed Forces members, so that we can become better ourselves, as humans and as the political leadership. So as to be able to solve problems. The point is for us to be useful to our Armed Forces members and provide solutions regarding their everyday issues”.
