Upon conclusion of the parade, Mr Davakis stated:
“The occupation of Limnos on 9 October 1912 and the establishment of the base at Moudros marked the complete naval supremacy of Greece in the Aegean. The opponent did not dare to exit for the rest of the war.
The liberation of Limnos was not just a land victory, it was a strategic victory. It ensured the “base of operations” from which the Hellenic fleet derived the power, flexibility and aggressive initiative.
With this strategic advantage, the naval battles of Elli and Limnos acquired a new dynamic: these victories did not occur by accident: they were the fruit of a plan, boldness and wise planning.
Such victories elevated Greece!”
