The Deputy Minister of National Defence, Thanasis Davakis, attended on Wednesday 17 September 2025 the presentation of the “Joint Comprehensive Action Plan for the Development of Military Tourism” that was held at the Athens War Museum.

The presentation was also honoured by the attendance of the Deputy Minister of Tourism Anna Karamanli, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture Giorgos Didaskalou, the Chairman of the Athens War Museum and President of the Joint Military Tourism Steering Committee Lieutenant General (ret.) Konstantinos Karamesinis, representatives of the Chiefs of General Staffs, the Local Government, members of the Armed Forces and students of military schools.

The purpose of the presentation was to highlight the cooperation between the Ministries of National Defence, Culture and Tourism on the promotion of Military History and heritage, as well as to create a modern and sustainable tourism product aiming at promoting our country as a Military Tourism destination.

In his address, Mr. Davakis stated:

“I am very pleased to welcome you today in the presentation of the Comprehensive Action Plan for the Promotion of Military Tourism, as a result of the close and constructive cooperation between the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism.

Today’s event signals a step forward in the promotion of a sector that uniquely combines our country’s history, culture and tourism.

Military tourism, as a thematic form of tourism, has the potential to highlight our long-standing military tradition, to honour our ancestors’ sacrifice and heroism, while at the same time to support Greece’s economic growth and tourism promotion at national and international level.

It is our duty to keep the memory of historical events and heroes alive, as well as to foster the sustainable development of regions that bear the imprint of military history, for the benefit of both Greek people and visitors from around the globe.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to all those who contributed to the developing of this Action Plan in a passionate and professional way and I give my commitment that on the part of the Ministry of National Defence, we shall continue devoting ourselves to the support and strengthening of this effort also in its next steps”.
