On Wednesday 15 October 2025, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis participated in the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, composed of Defence Ministers, held in Brussels.
The Defence Ministers of 27 member-states, chaired by the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, discussed the further reinforcement of the policy and military readiness of the European Union.
According to his position, the Deputy Minister stressed that Greece approaches the issue of the European Defence through a context based on four principles.
First, he stressed the need for Europe to follow a global approach regarding the estimation and facing of the threats.
Second, he pointed out that the pursuit for speed must not lead to ignoring the fundamental security interests of the Union’s member-states, during the process of developing defence cooperations with third countries.
Third, he projected the air defence as a priority field, pointing out that the protection of the eastern borders of the EU from the North to the South becomes even more necessary.
Finally, he reminded that the power of Europe lies in unity, cooperation and the achievement of economies of scale, and invited the members to cooperate towards this direction.
