On the night of Monday 13 May 2024, after the completion of the on-line consultation, the Draft Law of the Ministry of National Defence on the: “Establishment of the Hellenic Centre for Defence Innovation, modernization of the institutional framework of the Higher Military Educational Institutes, establishment of Common Information Systems Corps in the Armed Forces, and other provisions” was submitted to the Hellenic Parliament.
As referred in Article 1, the aim of the Draft Law is the following:
a) the development of an ecosystem for innovation, by establishing a legal entity
b) the modernization of the Higher Military Educational Institutes, through the possibility to organize doctoral studies, the simplification of the establishment of postgraduate studies programmes, and the participation of AF personnel in research programmes, and
c) the upgrade of the AF electronic services, the cybersecurity level, and the enhancement of the credibility of the information systems.
The Draft Law is structured in seven parts:
Part A includes the scope and the subject of the legislation.
Part B regards the establishment of the Hellenic Centre for Defence Innovation.
Part C regards the modernization of the operation of the Higher Military Educational Institutes.
Part D regards the establishment of a new Common Information Systems Corps for the Armed Forces.
Part E regards resolving issues of the AF healthcare services, enhancing the income of the military personnel, addressing financial issues, hiring qualified personnel in the Armed Forces, and enhancing the security of military installations.
Part F includes the enabling, transitional and repealed provisions.
Part G regards the entry into force of the Law.
