The Joint Ministerial Decision of the Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias and the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Athanasios Petralias, was published in the Government Gazette (GG B 5175/30-9-2025), with which the maximum limit of the night working hours is redefined for the military personnel on 24-hour duty.
It is pointed out that until now, the members of the Armed Forces were being compensated on average for 5 out of 8 night working hours. With the new Joint Ministerial Decision, the total of 8 hours will be compensated.
For example:
– A member of the army who is on duty 6 times per month and is compensated for 28 hours, with the new Joint Ministerial Decision will be compensated for 48 hours. It is a 70% increase on the compensation, from 93€ to 160€ per month. The yearly benefit amounts to 800€.
– A member of the army who is on duty 4 times per month and is compensated for 21 hours, with the new Joint Ministerial Decision will be compensated for 32 hours. It is a 52% increase on the compensation, from 70€ to 107€ per month. The yearly benefit amounts to 440€.
Also, with the same Joint Ministerial Decision and in the context of the care for the personnel, the compensation of night shifts is enacted for the military nurses, for whom until now there was no relative provision. For example, a nurse with 3 night shifts per month will get 80€ per month or 960€ per year.
The total amount of the extra compensations that the members will be paid amounts to 8.7 million euros.
The new Joint Ministerial Decision will be applicable from 01/01/2026.
