The Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos Signs the Contract for the Grant of the Maritime Tradition Park “Ulysses – The Greeks and the Sea”

The Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, representing the Greek State, and the President of the Non-profit Civil Partnership “CYCLOPS” based in Drama Mr Anastasios – Aris Theodoridis proceeded to the signing of a Contract for the Grant of the Maritime Tradition Park with the registered name “Ulysses – The Greeks and the Sea”.

With this contract, the Non-profit Civil Partnership “CYCLOPS” based in Drama undertakes the cost of the project’s materialisation and after its completion it will proceed to the grant of the Maritime Tradition Park “Ulysses – The Greeks and the Sea” to the Greek State to be used for the benefit of all the Greeks.

The project is expected to constitute the focal point of the showcasing of the everlasting relation of the Greeks with the sea in the area of Floisvos, in Palaio Faliro. Historical artifacts, documents, rare printed material, as well as digital content will be exhibited in the constructed buildings, through which the course of the Greeks at sea throughout history will be analytically outlined in a well-documented manner.

The construction works for the Maritime Tradition Park with the registered name “Ulysses – The Greeks and the Sea” are expected to be completed in 2025, taking place on a stretch of twenty-two acres in Floisvos, on the site where the historical ships of the Hellenic Navy, like the “Georgios Averof” Armoured Cruiser and the ancient trireme, are currently located.

The contract was signed at the office of the Minister of National Defence, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Hardalias, the Chief of HNDGS General Konstantinos Floros, the Chief of HNGS Vice Admiral Ioannis Drymousis, as well as competent executive bodies.
