The Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, visited today, Thursday 14 April 2022, the facilities of the NMIOTC in Souda – Crete, in the presence of US Ambassador in Greece Mr. Goeffrey R. Pyatt and US House of Representatives Members led by Mr. Salud Carbajal.
The Minister, accompanied by the Chief HNDGS General Konstantinos Floros, together with the US Congressment and the Ambassador, were briefed by the NMIOTC (NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Center) Commander about the mission and operation of the Allied multinational and joint training center in Crete.
In his speech, Mr. Panagiotopoulos highlighted the importance of the strategic relationship between Greece and the USA, which is based on shared historical and political values. He also made a brief presentation of the state of security in East Mediterranean and Greece’s support to Ukraine’s defence of its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
The Minister of National Defence stressed that Greece is the undisputed pillar of peace, security and stability in the wider region and is consistently meeting its NATO and European Union obligations. He also noted that our country condemns revisionist and infringement attitudes that are contrary to International Law and the rules of good neighbourliness, by anyone.
Within the framework of the visit, they all had a tour at the US Naval Support Activity (NSA) Souda Bay.
