The Ministry of National Defence, ECOCITY and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki join their forces for the protection of the most recent monuments of the Armed Forces

The Ministry of National Defence, ECOCITY and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki co-financed by the Green Energy Fund, join their forces, aiming at rescuing the most recent monuments of the Armed Forces from Climate Change consequences.

In the context of the cooperation among the Ministry of National Defence, ECOCITY and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the “Monuments in Defence” are developed, through an 18-month program of research, inventory, documentation and projection of the respective Cultural Depository.

The basic fields of joint actions development are mainly: Preservation, restoration, constructions, forts, pillboxes, observation posts, lighthouses, Historical Sites, shipwrecks and relics of the War Museums exhibited in open spaces, threatened by the catastrophic consequences of extreme weather phenomena.

Especially, through the contribution of the ECOCITY experts and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki scientists, recommendations of strategy and techniques development will be presented for their preservation, so that resources are drawn and ensured for their rescue and restoration.

The inventory and documentation of the monuments’ existing status is being performed by the competent Armed Forces members.

A manual-type guide that will be drafted will provide information regarding the monuments’ imprinting, inventory and categorization, with regard to climate vulnerability and the caused damages or those expected to occur, which will be recorded in a Digital Depository.
