“It constitutes a particular honour and pleasure to be here today, in Nicosia, along with the esteemed friends and colleagues, of the Republic of Cyprus and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for our first Trilateral Meeting.
The strong bonds of our three countries are founded on common principles and values. We have a common vision and jointly strive for the establishment of an environment and conditions of stability, security and prosperity in the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean. Our common goal is to materialise a long-term, cohesive and substantial strategic cooperation, on the basis of International Law and the principles of good neighbourly relations with all the countries of the region.
Today we had the opportunity to discuss the latest developments in the region, as well as the progress of our cooperation in the field of defence. With our Trilateral Cooperation we will strive to enhance the interoperability of our Armed Forces and the full utilisation of our countries’ capabilities and comparative advantages, in fields of mutual interest, like, for example, through joint training opportunities, but also through inter-service exercises.
With the esteemed colleagues, we talked about the substantial security threats and challenges in our wider region and we underlined our joint commitment and decisiveness for their effective countering.
During our talks we stressed the need to respect the sovereignty, the sovereign rights and the territorial integrity of all the countries in the region, as well as of the International Law and the good neighbourly relations, which constitute fundamental conditions of the regional stability and peace in the Eastern Mediterranean.
With our Trilateral Cooperation we are sending the powerful message of our close cooperation and solidarity, aiming for prosperity and peace in our region.
Finally, I would like to thank the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus and dear friend Mr Charalambos Petridis for his warm welcome and cordial hospitality and stress that we are looking forward to our next Trilateral Meeting, in 2022, which will constitute a new landmark for the cooperation between Greece, Cyprus and Jordan”.
