Today, 5 Friday 2016, the Alternate Minister of National Defence Dimitris Vitsas, visited the 113 Combat Wing in Kastelli, Heraklion. During his visit he was briefed upon the mission of the Combat Wing and addressed a salutation to the personnel of the Unit.
The Alternate Minister, accompanied by Heraklion Prefecture MPs Socrates Vardakis and Nikos Egoumenides, brought up the current conditions in the wider neighbourhood of our country, as well as the existent threats, stressing that Greece consists a stability pillar in the region. As far as the Armed Forces are concerned, he underlined that they are ready to manage any threat, while simultaneously he stressed that it is the responsibility of the state to keep the battle worthiness of the Armed Forces at high level. He went on to add, as far as the Hellenic Air Force is concerned, that the upgrade and modernisation of existent assets constitute a main priority.
Making mention of the Armed Forces personnel, he highlighted the fact that the human factor is a force multiplier and noted that the leadership of the Ministry of National Defence is seriously taking this fact into account. He also reassured that there will be no further wage reductions, and that what is currently being discussed is the fact that the applied reductions will be compensated by the enhancement of welfare for the Armed Forces personnel, presenting for example the utilisation of the Armed Forces property, aiming to improve the standard of living of the personnel, at unit as well as at personal level.
