The Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis visited today, Tuesday 22 July 2025, the Hellenic Fleet Headquarters, accompanied by the Chief of HNGS Vice Admiral Dimitrios – Eleftherios Kataras HN, at the Salamina Naval Base. There, he was received by the Commander in Chief of the Hellenic Fleet, Vice Admiral Christos Sasiakos HN.
The Deputy Minister was briefed on the structure, the mission, the current operational and training activities of the Hellenic Fleet Headquarters, as well as the level of operational readiness of its units.
He visited the “SPETSAI” frigate, the “DANIOLOS” missile boat, the “PONTOS” submarine and the “KATSONIS” submarine, where he talked extensively with the personnel.
He then visited the Salamina Naval Hospital, where he was received by the Director of the Medical Directorate of HNGS, Rear Admiral (Med/Doc) Sotirios Moraitis HN, the Hospital’s Director, Commander (Med/Doc) Vasilios Souridis HN and the Commander of the Salamina Naval Base Commodore (Eng) Spyros Mantis HN.
Mr Davakis, after the end of the visit, stated:
“Today I had the honour and the pleasure of visiting the Hellenic Fleet Headquarters on Salamina, the heart of our Navy. I was briefed on the operational capabilities, the challenges and the daily mission of our personnel, who secure our homeland, with a high sense of duty.
I express the absolute appreciation, trust and gratitude of the State for the work they achieve, under hard conditions. The decisiveness, the professionalism and the devotion of the Fleet’s personnel constitute the guarantee for our national security and deterrence. The enhancement and the modernisation of our Armed Forces and of the personnel, remain our strategic priority.
At the same time, my visit to the Salamina Naval Hospital, brought me into close contact with the significant mission accomplished in the field of the Hellenic Navy personnel’s medical support, as well as that of their families, and it made me aware of the need for improvement of the personnel’s everyday conditions.
I would like to congratulate the leadership, the personnel and all the members of the Hellenic Fleet Headquarters and the Salamina Naval Hospital on their devotion to duty and thank them for the reception and briefing”.
