The Minister of National Defence had previously stated, after his visit to the Diocese, regarding his visit to Serres:  “I am very glad, and I dare say, greatly honoured, to be here today, in Serres, invited by His Eminence the Metropolitan Bishop of Serres and Nigrita Mr Theologos, to attend the Great Vespers, in the church of Pammegisti Taxiarches. I would like to add that Serres has a particular significance for our party, the New Democracy. It is the birthplace of our founder, the Ethnarch Konstantinos Karamanlis. It has been a long time since my last visit to Serres, since the days of my military service, but I am really glad to be here and along with my dear colleagues from the Parliament, we will attend the Great Vespers. Thank you once again”.
