His Excellency the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr Prokopis Pavlopoulos visited the Ministry of National Defence, where he was briefed by the political and military leadership.
In his address, the Minister of National Defence Mr Panos Kammenos stated the following:
“Your Excellency, Mr President of the Hellenic Republic,
it is a particular honour for the Armed Forces, the Ministry of National Defence, for all of us, to welcome you here today at the Ministry of National Defence.
We welcome you along with the Alternate Minister of National Defence, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, the Chiefs of the General Staffs of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force, the Deputy Chiefs, the Directors of the Staff Directorates, the Directors of the Directorates and representatives of officers, NCOs, enlisted soldiers and civilian personnel.
As the first citizen of the country and at the same time as the Leader – you lead the Armed Forces – you give us the strength to continue our work, defending the country’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, with your presence here today.
We will take this opportunity, Mr President, to conduct a briefing on the current condition of the Armed Forces, although you are the only President of the Hellenic Republic who has particularly honoured us, having visited units of all the Services, having spent a night on a ship of our Hellenic Navy on the celebration of the Virgin Mary.
Everyone knows, the NCOs, the officers, the enlisted soldiers, the members of the National Guard, the civilian personnel, that you embrace all of the Armed Forces, the men and women, who give their daily battle for the safety of all Greeks.
