The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Chardalias conducted today, Wednesday 25 May 2022, successive visits to the Hellenic Maritime Museum and the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, in Piraeus.
Initially, the Deputy Minister of National Defence went to the Hellenic Maritime Museum, where he was received by the President of the Board of Directors Ms Anastasia Anagnostopoulou – Paloubis and the Vice President B΄ Honorary Chief of HNGS Admiral (retired) Nikolaos Tsounis.
Mr Chardalias was briefed, in the presence of the members of the Board of Directors, on the perennial, rich, qualitative and multifaceted activities of the Museum and its contribution to the showcasing of the Greeks’ maritime historic path. Furthermore, he visited the exhibitions and the maritime library.
Subsequently, the Deputy Minister of National Defence visited the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, where its Director, the Honorary Commander in Chief of the Hellenic Fleet Vice Admiral (retired) Konstantinos Mazarakis – Ainian briefed him on the exceptionally important work accomplished by the Organisation, at the Greek and international level, aiming to showcase the Greek culture, particularly the Greek literature, as well as the historical and maritime research and art. Furthermore, he was given a tour of the premises of the Foundation’s Historical Library, which contains book collections and records of major figures of literature, arts and sciences, as well as the premises of the Nelson Maritime Collection, which includes personal items, tens of letters and exhibits connected to the English Admiral Horatio Nelson, which constitutes the largest collection of its kind, out of the United Kingdom.
