Working meeting between the Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis and representatives of companies from the Greek defence industry that participated in the Greece – Spain Defence Industry Day in Madrid

April 3, 2026

The Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis held a working meeting with representatives of companies from the Greek defence industry that participated in the Greece – Spain Defence Industry Day (Madrid 19/3/26) today, Friday 3 April 2026.

Mr. Davakis had led the Greek delegation to Spain for bilateral talks with his counterpart Amparo Valcarce, with the aim of broadening and deepening bilateral relations in the fields of defence and defence industry. The visit, which took place on March 19 th 2026, followed the bilateral meeting between the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sánchez in January 2026. Mr. Davakis was accompanied by representatives from 15 companies and institutional representatives of the Greek defence industry, who participated in the Greece –Spain Defence Industry Day.

The purpose of today’s working meeting was to evaluate the results of the Greek delegation, gather feedback from the companies, and draw useful conclusions and lessons. The conclusions of the meeting will be used to plan the next steps, as well as in the context of similar future bilateral missions. After the meeting, Mr. Davakis stated:

“Our meeting today with representatives of Greek defence industry companies who accompanied us on our recent mission to Madrid and participated in the Greece – Spain Defence Industry Day was substantive and productive. We realistically assessed the results of the Greek delegation, listened to the companies, and recorded their views and conclusions.

The bilateral contacts and meetings that took place at the government level, beginning with the Prime Minister’s visit last January and my meeting with my Spanish counterpart, that the shared determination of the two prime ministers brought about, has established the necessary framework for development, within which the outward-looking nature of our Greek defence industry in Spain can operate with greater security and prospects.

The response from businesses and the quality of the feedback we received today confirm the success of the approach we chose, as well as the fact that there is significant potential for developing partnerships between Greek and Spanish companies. Our goal is to actively support this momentum by creating the conditions that will enable Greek businesses – especially small and medium-sized enterprises – to actively participate in joint European projects that have a real impact.

I am confident that the future will be even more productive and that the next steps will confirm the potential that has already been demonstrated”.

In addition to the company representatives, those present included the CEO of the Hellenic Center for Defence Innovation (HCDI) Pantelis Tzortzakis, the General Director of Defence Investments and Armaments (GDDIA) Major General Ioannis Bouras, and the Director of HNDGS/F Staff Directorate, who is responsible for matters related to further development, innovation, and defence technology, Major General Georgios Panousis.
